Traction slide in a pitch deck: purpose, rubric and three fixes

Last verified: October 20, 2026

The traction slide of a pitch deck shows evidence that customers want the product: dated figures for users, revenue or pilots, each with a definition, and the names of customers who agreed to be named. The rubric weights it most from seed on, so every figure needs a date and a meaning.

What this slide is for

Traction is judged on the quality of the evidence, not on size alone. Qualitative praise scores low, dated figures score higher, and a trend across at least two points in time scores higher still.

What the rubric looks for

The getfund rubric v1 does not score slides one by one. It scores dimensions across the whole deck, and this slide supplies evidence for the ones below.

  • Traction and evidence quality, getfund rubric v1, score 3: Dated figures of real usage or revenue, or named paying customers or pilots
  • Traction and evidence quality, getfund rubric v1, score 5: Sustained growth in revenue or retention with cohort or unit detail and a verifiable source

Three fixes

  1. Pick one metric, define it in a line and show it at two or more dates.
  2. Name customers or partners who allow it, or say how many pilots are paying.
  3. Label what is a sign-up, what is a pilot and what is revenue, and do not add them together.

A template sentence

Fill the brackets with your own confirmed facts. Do not copy the sentence as written, and do not invent a figure to fill a gap.

[Metric, defined] grew from [value] on [date] to [value] on [date]; [customer name] [pays or pilots] since [month].

The check that applies

getfund rubric v1, Required sections (4 points): Problem, solution, market, business model, traction, team and ask, each found by keyword in English or Turkish: points in proportion to the sections found

The required-sections check looks for traction, customers, growth, revenue, users or milestones (or their Turkish equivalents), which almost any traction slide contains. The sourced-numbers check does not ask for a source on your own metrics.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as traction before launch?
A waitlist, letters of intent or pilots count. The rubric scores undated numbers below dated usage or revenue, so give each one a date and a definition and label it as what it is.
Is one data point enough?
It scores below a trend. A dated trend needs at least two points in time on the same metric.
Should I show a hockey-stick chart?
Show the real series. A chart with dated axes and units reads as evidence; a curve without them does not.
